October 26, 2020 Seniors 'escape' the pandemic in Virginia Beach with good wine and music By DENISE M. WATSON THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT VIRGINIA BEACH - Drink orders started flowing before most of the concert-goers got to their seats. "Bud Light and a chardonnay," said server Francine Francois to Juleah Best, the wellness director and - for the next 30 minutes - bartender at First Colonial Inn senior community. Best popped open wine and beer bottles behind a portable bar parked on the facility's patio. She had iced buckets of beer, wine and non-alcoholic versions of vino, water and soda for people who didn't drink or couldn't because alcohol meddles with their meds. |

December 7, 2015 Whatever happened to... the retired Marine who sings Sinatra? By Margaret Matray Frank's calendar is full. Holiday parties, retirement homes, private events. But Frank Cubillo has one more date marked down for December. It is, perhaps, the most important one. On Dec. 31, highlighted in yellow: "Frank's retirement date." Head out on a weekend in Hampton Roads, and chances are you've seen Cubillo. He's the guy with the microphone and fedora, gliding down the sidewalk for Beach Street USA at the Oceanfront. He's been performing as a Frank Sinatra tribute singer since 2009, when he retired as a colonel in the Marines after more than 37 years. |
